Viewing reports
Once you have successfully updated a report, you can view the report by visiting the Report Viewer or by selecting the button from the Account Manager.
Reports are broken into subreports as discussed below.
Note Some of these reports may not be created for your sites because of the configuration or subscription.
Note In some of the reports, some of the report information will be color coded. The meaning of each color is provided at the top right side of the Report Viewer.
Site summary
The goal of the site summary page is to give you a quick overview of the content on your site. It will tell you information such as:
- The number of pages that were on your site.
- The number of pages that are new since it was last processed.
- The number of pages that are missing; the Missing Pages report will help you find these.
- The number of sites and pages that your site is linking to.
- The number of missing pages that your site is linking to; the Missing Pages report will help you find these.
- The number of pages that are no longer referenced by your site; the Missing Pages report will help you find these.
- The number of errors and warnings to note.
- The date and time that the report was created.
If you want to generate a new report, simply select the Refresh link at the bottom of this report. Keep in mind that some sites take a little time to process, and while it is processing, you cannot view the report.
Missing pages
The missing pages report gives you insight to both pages that are missing from your site and the sites you are linking to, and pages that you are linking to that are no longer referenced by your site.
For the missing pages, the report will give you the page that is missing and where it is referenced from. All of the links in the report will bring you to the Complete Report for the page in question.
The page may be missing because of a typo, a file was forgotten to be uploaded, or a file is no longer relevant. The Complete Report should provide the information required to make this call.
For the pages that are no longer referenced, the URL, the date that it was last referenced and current status are listed. You should go through the list and look for pages that are not found on your site because some of your users may have bookmarked the page or people may be linking to this page from their own sites. When you move content around on your web page, it is best to redirect users to the right location. You should consult your web server’s documentation for information on how to do this.
Notes
The notes report provides a list of information, warnings, and errors for each page referenced on your site. For convenience, it is broken up into the pages that are on your site (Internal Notes) and the pages that are not on your site (External Notes).
At the top of the page, there is a selector that allows you to select the sort order of the report. Your choices are:
- Normal: This is the default view.
- Number of Internal References: The pages will be sorted by number of links to your site on a page.
- Number of External References: The pages will be sorted by the number of links to other sites on page.
- Number of Links To This Page: The pages will be sorted by the pages with the most links to it to the page with the fewest links to it.
- Number of Notes and Severity: The pages will be sorted so that the pages with the most and highest priority links come first. This can be used to make a plan towards fixing all the problems.
Each link will bring you to the Complete Report and the page has a handy Visit link that allows you to visit the page in question easily.
External report
The External Report will tell you all of the sites that you are linking to. Links to other sites must be strategic and must be maintained. Be sure that the list of links makes sense for your business, and be especially careful for pages that redirect the end-user as the redirected page may not provide the user experience you originally were targeting.
Each link will bring you to the Complete Report and the page has a handy Visit link that allows you to visit the page in question easily.
Complete report
The Complete Report will display the following information about the pages:
- Notes associated with the item
- All anchors that were found in the page
- The links on this page to other pages on your site
- The links on this page to pages on other sites
- The list of pages that reference this page
Each link in the lists will bring you to the Complete Report for that page.
On the Complete Report for a specific internal page, you can click the button to refresh the contents of that page. This will take a few minutes to update the report and verify your changes.
